Invitation to Think Curators Think

Dear Artist,

®edux' project space would like to invite you to participate in a project, that challanges the usual notions of curatorial practice by offering an option to transform the conditions for the individual work and the conceptual structure of the show.

The project around the term 'artist-curator' began at Goldsmiths College in April 2004, with Peter Lewis and a group of undergraduate students in fine art, raising the ante for the participation of artists in a project.

Each of 'us artists-curators' would work on a one to one basis with one of 'you invited artists' and ask you to select one or more specific works, which you feel would be open to a process of change. We are offering a field of social interaction as both an obstruction and advantage to the making or re-making of the work.

We are thereby proposing a system to offer a reversibility of positions, and a certain loss of

control. The selected artists may turn the tables on the curators who have interfered with the conditions for the making of works.

The second stage of the project will culminate in a series of shows at ®edux in June and July. A forerunning event to this process will be a social gathering in the ®edux space at the 20th of May bringing the participants together with their curatorial hosts.
